4 day Pre-Kindergarten
Children must be 4 on or before August 1st to attend 4-Day PreK
- Class Ratio: 1 Teacher to max 11 children
- Children attend 4 days a week – 9 to noon
- Children in Pre-Kindergarten classes may attend Lunch Bunch when offered ($5.00 per session)
Learning Goals & Experiences
- Guided practice in advanced social skills, including conflict resolution and building positive peer relationships.
- Letter recognition of all upper- and lower-case letters in the alphabet
- Formation of all letters in the alphabet upper and lower case following Zaner-Bloser font
- Letter identification in rapid, random sequence
- Number recognition to 20 in rapid, random sequence
- Introduction to 25 sight words
- Large group instruction progressing towards the ability to stay on task for 30 minutes
- Follow 2 and 3 step directions
- With consistency and practice the student will be able to follow and successfully execute complete class routines and procedures without verbal or visual prompts from the teacher
Requirements
This classroom is designed to prepare children to attend kindergarten the following year and follows a more accelerated pace of learning. Families should be aware that this environment is best suited for children who are developmentally ready for longer periods of focus, independent self-help skills, and participation in a group setting without the need for one-on-one support. For some children—such as those with summer birthdays or who may benefit from additional time to grow in these areas — we are happy to help families explore the classroom placement that will best support their child’s development and confidence.
Skills to practice to prepare your child for PreK
- Correct pencil grip
- Use of scissors
- Drawing prewriting strokes of vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines as well as make a circle
- Recognizing the letters in and writing their first name, also recognizing other upper/lowercase letters
- Recognize numbers, understand 1:1 correspondence, rote count to 10, know basic shapes and colors
